Plant varieties of Karcag Research Institute of Research Institutes and Educational Farm of Centre for Agricultural and Applied Economic Sciences of University of Debrecen include agricultural research and development, professional advising, practical training and marketing. Furthermore breeding of plant species suitable for production under extreme ecological (soil and climate) conditions and working out their cultivation technology is also an important task of the Research Institute. The breeding research work has been carried out in the Institute for several decades. The result of breeding work is 33 varieties in 13 plant species. Winter wheat varieties: Early maturity: · KG Széphalom It proved to be as good or better than the standard varieties of the harvest group in every examined quality index. · KG Kunglória Its grain yield exceeds the standard average in each year. Flour quality tends to the „improving” category. Very early maturity · KG Magor Gluten content is 23-28 flour quality is B1, standability and winter hardiness is outstanding. Medium maturity: · Hunor Gluten content is between 28-32 nd is very stable. Flour quality is A1-A2. Standability and winter hardiness are outstanding. · KG Bendegúz It has average yield, gluten content is 30-32 flour quality B2-B1. The biotic resistance is prominent. Late maturity: · KG Kunhalom Approaches or exceeds the standard average yield, gluten content is over 36 flour quality is A1-A2. Protein content exceeds the 15 Winter barley: · Kunsági-2 Yield potential is around the standard average, early maturity, standability and winter hardiness is above the average. · KG Puszta Yield potential is around the standard average, resistance and winter hardiness is both outstanding. Good toleration of extreme ecological conditions. Triticale · Dusi Yield is above the standard average. Early harvest, excellent winter hardiness, strong bush forming ability. · Titan Yield is significantly higher than the standard average, almost the highest. Excellent biotic and abiotic resistance. 13,5 rotein content makes it be a good fodder crop. · KG Berek The yield is significantly higher than tha standard average, protein content is high and makes it be a good fodder crop. Baking quality is C1, the flour of it can be used for bread mixed with wheat flour. Grain sorghum · Zádor Early maturity, outstanding standability, good yield potential. · Albita Medium-late maturity, white grain sorghum hibrid with very low tannin content. Capable of a record (8-10 t ha-1) yield. Sudangrass · Bovital It can be utilized as pasture or hay three times in a year. The production is 20-25 t/ha dry weight. · Gardavan Outstanding standability, strong bush forming ability. It’s recommended to feed as green fodder or to silage. The production is 20-25 t/ha dry weight. Millet · Lovászpatonai pirosmagvú Drought resistance is prominent. It is recommended for a second drilling as well. The crop can be utilized as bird fodder and the strow for sheep. · Maxi White grained variety. Production is 3-4 t/ha. Kernel weight is 7-7,5 g. The crop can be utilized as bird fodder or human consumption as well. Canarygrass · Lizard It can be produced in drough areas and between unfavourable conditions as well. It’s a bird fodder too. The grain production is 1,5-3 t/ha. Hungarian grass · Mezõhegyesi sárgamagvú Early maturity. We can produce as green fodder, as hay or as pasture as well. The grain is for birds. Hungarian chickling vetch · Karcagi kismagvú It’s suitable for green manure or green fodder. Hungarian vetch · Béta It can be sowed with rye, triticale or winter wheat. It can be fed as hay or green fodder. The grain is for birds. Winter pea · It’s a green fodder or you can sow with cereales as well. Rye-grass · Karcagi It is a vegatative variety. It has strong bush forming ability and can tolerate pasturing. · Zöldike It has excellent winter and salt resistance. It is a grass-plot component.
